Spark plug idea
A thought occured to me. Why is it that spark plugs only arc across a small gap? Its well known that igniting it at the top makes it burn slower. Why not instead arc between the electrode and the piston? The arc would ignite the entire column of charge then instead of a small portion and waiting for it to carry the flame to the rest of the charge.I would think the explosion would be like detonation where the entire charge combusts at the same time.
